Mission and Vision Statement
Goshen UMC

Vision: To know Christ and to make Christ known.
Mission: To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Here at Goshen UMC we believe that making disciples of Jesus Christ is about inviting and
equipping people in and around Goshen to know Christ and to make Christ known. We believe
these are two vitally important characteristics of a disciple.
Disciples know Jesus Christ, not just as a concept, but within a relationship of love and
faithfulness in which we seek to become more like the one we follow—Jesus Christ!
Disciples also make Christ known through their words, actions and how they live their lives.
They seek to proclaim the good news of God's love and embody it in their day-to-day lives thus
being a part of God's transforming work in the world.
Disciples who know Christ and make Christ known live lives characterized by three important
dimensions, which is why we work to fulfill our mission in three primary ways:
UP
• the worship of God. Corporate Sunday worship, 10 a.m.;
• special seasonal worship services;
• prayer and devotional life;
• retreat experiences (seek to add one in coming year). *
IN
• Bible Study—several offerings per year;
• Sunday School — children/youth/adults;
• Small Groups—develop small group ministries; *
• Congregational Care—develop ongoing program (laity led). *
OUT
• Local Missions and Service (1 event per year, youth and adult);
• International Mission and Service (adopt and support missionary);*
• Daily witness in our everyday spheres of influence.
• Community Outreach and Fellowship Events
